On June 27, 2013, the UP Cebu Professional School, located at the SRP, hosted a Leadership forum on "Creating a Values-Driven Career" with its speaker, Associate Supreme Court Justice Marvic Mario Victor F. Leonen.
In the forum, Justice Leonen shared his life experiences on how he was able to develop a successful career in the Philippines. The audience was able to reflect on their chosen careers or endeavors, where they are often expected to generate above average results while continually improving their knowledge and skills.
Although these are important to success, Justice Leonen encouraged the audience to also consider core values, to achieve greater meaning and satisfaction.
He emphasized that understand ourselves and our core values enables us to determine how we can more effectively use our talents and abilities, resulting in more successful outcomes for the organizations we serve.
The program was opened by UP Cebu's Dean, Attorney Liza Corro, who gave a brief introduction of the UP Cebu Professional Schools, and the programs hosted in the campus, including the MBA program and other graduate programs such as the Masters program in Computer Science, and others.
Attorney Liza Corro is the newly installed Dean of the University of the Philippines, Cebu, an autonomous unit under the University of the Philippines System. She is currently teaching Business Organization and Labor Law, as part of the curriculum of the Business Management Cluster.
The forum was attended by the Deans, Chairpersons, faculty members and students from the CIT University, University of the Philippines ? Cebu, University of San Carlos ? TC and the University of San Jose ? Recoletos. Also from the industry sector was Alliance Software Inc. with its President and CEO Mr. Robert Cheng, COO Mr. Sherwin Yu and selected employees. NEC Software Telecommunications Philippines also attended with its General Manager for HR and General Affairs, Ms. Gina Alonzo, and selected employees.
Justice Marvic Leonen is the youngest Supreme Court Justice in this century appointed by President Benigno Aquino III on November 2012.
Prior to his appointment, he served as the Philippine government's chief negotiator with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). Under his leadership, the government successfully negotiated an agreement with the MILF for the establishment of the Bangsamoro political entity, bringing new hopes for sustainable peace in Mindanao. He also co-founded the Legal Rights and Natural Resources Center Inc.- Kasama sa Kalikasan.
Graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Economics from UP, Justice Leonen has also served in various positions in the University of the Philippines (UP), including serving as Dean in the College of Law from 2008 to 2011, Vice President for Legal Affairs, and general counsel, in addition to being a faculty member of the College of Law.
A highly regarded mentor, Justice Leonen has helped nurture the careers of those he has worked with. Today, he remains an influential servant leader as he serves at the country's highest tribunal.
