The HackIT Challenge, currently on its third run, arrived once again to test skills, determination and teamwork. With this, nine teams coming from different business units dared to take the challenge of one of the most awaited events in Alliance. With the theme, "With the tech industry in the forefront of solving the world and the humanity's biggest challenges today, Alliance Software, Inc., a global Filipino company commits to continue developing IT solutions to enable more people live their best lives," which is also aligned with the concept of the new LiveIT campaign, each team brainstormed on innovative business ideas to come up with the best running application at the end of the day.

From ASJ, a total of seven teams joined the competition; two teams from ROW also took on the challenge. Compared to the last two years, a lot of significant changes were observed in this year’s hackathon. “One major change was the 8-hour format changed to 24 hours. With this, the teams had more time to prepare and deliver more output. In fact, the champion team had most of its planned features delivered. Another thing is that this year's prize has doubled compared to the previous years. Each participant also received custom-made freebies from Alliance.

Lots of food was prepared, which I think everybody was looking forward before the start of the event,” remarked Sir Jess Minoza, PMO Manager. Tokens, which include: HackIT logo printed sweatshirt jackets, tumblers, Alliance LiveIT shirts and more, were given away during the event. To add to the challengers’ excitement, 30,000 php was to be given to the winning team and 3,000 php each for the runner-up teams. “I saw teams that we're planning days before the event and heard a lot of trash talks,” said Sir Minoza.

HackIT Challenge Winners

Winners were announced during the Alliance Thanksgiving Party

Winners were announced during the Alliance Thanksgiving Party in Maayo Hotel, Mandaue City last December 1, 2018. Teams from ASJ grabbed all three major awards. Team Hey SJ composed of Edbert Jason Estevez, Justin Josef Enerio and Gregorec Vince Lapesora bagged the first place with their application called LiveIT Portal which aims to help employees be informed and participate in different Alliance activities through their system. Coming in at second place was Team Charmay & Others composed of Charmay David, Jonald Cruz and Eleizer Absin with Karen, a food ordering system for small scale businesses. In third place, Team O.T.O.G composed of Reynaldo Bejec, Rommel Regalado Jr. and Renz Marvin Manatad, landed a place with their application called Takna which is a simple time management and rewards system that allows the users or managers to better manage and track their daily activities.

Next series of challenge

Fortunately, there will be a lot of chances to win the next series of hackathons as confirmed by Senior HR Manager, Miss Ryza Cañete. With that, she encourages everyone to join in the next hackathon challenges to come. “The positive energy at hackathon is contagious. Upon the end of the event, I can almost guarantee the fact that you will leave with many ideas and new goals regardless whether you finished your app or not. Just merely going through the process of deciding your app, to designing/attacking problems and the creative solutions will ignite your creativity, widen your imagination, and inspire you. If the HackIT Challenge participation is still not on your bucket list this 2019, make it now!”

The annual HackIT Challenge was held last November 9-10, 2018 in Alliance’s Training Room located on the 14th Floor, Buildcomm Center in Cebu Business Park.
