The speech contest comprised of 3 divisions: Student, Non-student, and Open Division. Each contestant articulated a 3-5 min. original composition on a topic of their choice. Two winners were selected from each division. From among the 1st placers, a champion was selected to take part in an all-expense-paid-week-long study tour in Japan by autumn.
Alliance representative Fretzel Eve Sanchez, guided and mentored by Kodai Hino-sensei, participated in the open division and won 1st place in the 17th Nihongo Speech Contest last February 2, 2019, held at SM City Cebu. Winners from each region competed in Manila where she garnered 2nd place in the said division.
